Tehran, 23 Sept. (AKI) - Nemat Safavi, arrested almost three years ago at the age of 16, has been condemned to death by a court in Ardebil, in the northwest Iranian Azerbaijan region.
Nemat has not killed anyone, stolen anything or even carried out any political activism.
Nemat has been accused of having homosexual relations.While that was not stated during the court case, he was accused of "sexual relations that were not admitted".
A year ago, on a visit to Colombia University in New York, Iran's hardline President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said "there were no homosexuals" in Iran in response to a question from a student.

Nemat Safavi, an Ardebili juvenile was detained by the government when he was 16 year old because of his homosexual acts and he sentenced to death after being prosecuted by the court of Ardebil.

Mr. Safavi was born in 1989, this juvenile has spent some time in a rectification and education center and then was transferred to the division of juveniles but now he is being kept in the division of youths in Ardebil prison.

After the release of prescription from the court of Ardebil, the foregoing prescription has been sent to the Iran's supreme court for the final confirmation.

In February 2007, two juveniles named "Hamzeh Chavi" (19 year old) and "Loghman Hamzehpour" (18 year old) were detained for homosexual acts in the small town of Sardasht and there is no information available on their latest circumstances.

نعمت صفوي فرزند اکبرنوجوان اردبيلي در سن 16 سالگي به دليل همجنسگرايي (ارتکاب عمل لواط)  بازداشت و پس از محاکمه در دادگاه اطفال از سوي دادگستري اردبيل به اعدام محکوم گرديد . وي در تيرماه سال 1385 بازداشت و اکنون مدت 27ماه است که در زندان به سر مي برد ، آقاي صفوي متولد سال 1368 مي باشند ، اين نوجوان مدتي را در کانون اصلاح و تربيت ، سپس بندهاي اطفال به سر برده است و اکنون در بند جوانان زندان اردبيل نگهداري ميشود.
پس از صدور حکم اعدام براي نامبرده از سوي دادگستري اردبيل ، حکم مذکور براي تائيد نهايي به ديوان عالي کشور ارسال گرديده است.
در بهمن ماه سال گذشته نيز دوجوان به نامهاي "حمزه چاوي" 19 ساله و "لقمان حمزه پور" 18 ساله در شهرستان سردشت به دليل همجنسگرايي بازداشت گرديده بودند که از آخرين وضعيت آنان اطلاعي در دست نيست.
