Reza in Greece Needs Urgent Help (December 29, 08)

“It saddens me with all the oppression against Iranian queers that I must write such a letter of compassion on Christmas Day.

Reza worked for the Iranian government.  He was called into the central office and shown a package sent to him by a friend from another country.  The officials opened his mail without his consent or knowledge. He was sent two gay DVDs.  He did not ask nor even had any knowledge that they were sent to him as a gift.  The supervisor informed him that he must appear in court within three days.  He consulted a friend of legal matters and was told to flee Iran rather than appear in the court because he would most likely face a prison sentence or other kind of persecutions.

He left Iran a day before the court date and has been fleeing for the past two months to a more tolerant life in the West.  In his travel he even crossed the Aegean Sea at midnight in a small boat and he cannot even swim.  He was so terrified.  When he attempted to leave Greece for the Netherland, he was caught with an illegal passport and was sent to jail for two weeks pending being deported back to Iran to certain prison or worse.

He is now out of jail and awaiting deportation soon.  He has spent all the money that he had.  He is in desperate need of money to help him move on out of Greece to the Netherlands and, hopefully, on to Toronto to safety with Arsham Parsi.  He is in desperate need of financial funds to help him. When he was caught trying to fly to Amsterdam, they took his ticket with no refund.  If any of our brothers and sister out there with the IRanian Queer Railroad can donate financial help for him and forward it on to them, it would be so appreciated.  He is desperate.  He is literally running for his life now.  We must get these funds to him AS SOON AS POSSIBLE or he will be deported back to Iran.  His life depends upon it now.  Many, many sincere thanks to all of you out there for any possible help will be so appreciated.  This is just one of so many examples of the Iranian true attitude toward homosexuals.  We all must work with Arsham Parsi and his organization to stop this needless, hatred and oppression.”
